Alcohol And Drug Rehab

January 16, 2017 By Laura Carter

Alcohol And Drug Rehab

Entering a drug rehab program is the first step towards leading a fuller and richer life. Many people want to stop abusing alcohol and drugs, but are unable to do so on their own. For this reason, alcohol and drug rehab centers and programs are a great way for people to overcome this obstacle in their life and start making the appropriate changes that will prevent relapse and allow them to become a more productive person for themselves and their loved ones.

Depending on the treatment program or center you use, you will find that there are different philosophies to alcohol and drug rehab. For instance, some medical professionals believe that drug abuse is a neurological disease that one can never fully recover from. They focus on trying to keep it in remission and addressing the issue when it comes back. Other professionals believe that full recovery is possible if you are able to address the underlying causes of the drug abuse. The belief is that the drug addiction is merely a symptom of other problems or missing elements in the patient’s life. However, regardless of the underlying philosophy, the key is to make sure you or your loved one can give their full commitment to it. A critical factor in the success of any treatment and counseling program is the patient’s belief and confidence in the staff and program.

Alcohol and drug rehab info.com is an information website dedicated to provided key information on drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs and centers. Our goal is to give everyone at least a basic understanding of what you can expect to find in rehab and also, what you should consider to help find the best program for you or your loved one.

What To Expect From Substance Abuse Counseling?

December 16, 2016 By Laura Carter

What To Expect From Substance Abuse Counseling

Sometimes it can be difficult to stop abusing certain substances.  Don’t be alarmed as a lot of people have this problem.  What everyone needs to recognize is that substance abuse counseling available for those trying to get rid of this problem.  Each program will be slightly different; however, one can reasonably expect that the counseling program will go through a number of different stages in order to help them cope with or cure their addiction.

First and foremost, a substance abuse counseling program is concerned with the mental health and stability of the patients.  Normally, the first step of a counseling program is to help a person realize what they can do to resist their urges to use.  This may include things like advising them to stay away from places that make a person want to use or even discourage them from keeping contact with friends who are bad influences.  They also drive home the point that it’s easy to be able to stop using something while attending counseling, but after the program is over, people will have to avoid and deal with these issues on their own.  The goal of the program is to arm themselves with the right tools so they can do this effectively and consistently.

Another stage in a substance abuse counseling program is to continue to build on the things that were done in the earlier stage.  Here, people will be relearning how to get their lives in order.  They will be trying to figure out coping mechanisms to help them avoid abusing the substance or substances and how to add positive things to their lives to replace the now vacant drug use.  After a person has completed this stage, he or she is almost ready to start their life as an outpatient.  However, an evaluation is conducted to ensure the patient is ready for that stage in the process.

The last stage in a substance abuse counseling program is there to help launch a person back into his or her life armed with all the ideas and knowledge to help avoid bad situations and cope with the immediate issues that normally led to drug abuse in the past. To do this a general plan will be developed with the patient and the patient will go through an evaluation, and eventually be released.  From here, the patient will normally continue going to the services of a counseling program by using support groups for followup and to ensure they are keeping true to their plan.

How Does Cannabis Help Improve Creativity?

October 14, 2016 By Laura Carter

Before we proceed to that, has it been proven to affect one’s creativity? This question has been up for so long. There has been quite some debate about it. No study has proven the direct correlation between THC consumption and creativity. Some even suggest otherwise – that cannabis contributes to the deterioration of the brain, much more creativity. But, try asking an artist on what they do to stimulate creativity – smoking pot will come as a popular answer. It has been an artist’s friend for so long now. Even way beyond the hippie days.

I am an artist and at the same time a cannabis user. Instead of the usual smoking, I use a vaporizer to consume weed (Magic Vaporizers). And with my experience, I could say that cannabis helps me get started. Creativity is not only about painting with the correct strokes, or composing music with radical tunes. Creativity is also the capacity to go beyond the existing. It is to create a new artwork that is not only revolutionary in its genre but is also captivating to its audience.

We reach a “high” because of THC, the psychoactive compound present in cannabis. When we are in that state, the compound affects the normal processing of our brains. We partially lose coordination with the environment. Our sense of time is affected. We experience munchies, sometimes eating more than our usual diet. And, we lose the restrictions of reality. When I say this, I do not mean that we lose the sense of what is right and wrong. It is not true that cannabis provokes you to commit crimes.

What I mean by “losing the restrictions of reality” is that we are capacitated to go beyond the ordinary. We can accept something we would normally consider as “a crazy idea.” Being high gives me the chance to extract my creative juices. The high state lets me have the unique concepts in mind. Cannabis can temporarily impair your motor skills and memory. So when I am collecting my thoughts, I write down those that amuse me. Sometimes I use a voice recorder when I am not able to write anymore.

Smoking weed does contribute to creativity. The misconception that it does not do you any good arises from the impression that “being creative” translates to a finished artwork. I find it difficult to sketch a draft when I am high, more so finish a painting. But if I do not smoke, I will not be able to develop the ideas that eventually become my artworks. My paintings would not have the originality and style that they have if I had to develop them while I was sober.

If you are experiencing the writer’s block, and haven’t tried smoking yet, I recommend you to do it. Try smoking it or using a vaporizer. And accompany it with good music to help stimulate the production of those creative juices. And don’t forget to write down the crazy concepts you can

David Hewson’s “Mother Earth”

September 2, 2016 By Laura Carter

This beautiful guilded painting by David Hewson, Mother Earth, is 4 X 8 feet and was installed, on the 9th of January, in the entrance of a heart center for a hospital in the United States. David Hewson started it about a year ago, inspired by a doing a native ceremony outside of Cusco, Peru.

David Hewson’s unique artwork carries within it the heart and beauty of the Amazon Jungle, in which he lives, and its inhabitants: plants, animals, people and mythological beings alike.

Water Spirits

“This work derives from a personal vision I had while communing with the Orejone Indians. They spoke of the water spirits in certain forms, and through their stories I envisioned a masculine serpent entwined with a mermaid.”

Madre Ayahuasca

“Ayahuasca is an ancient traditional medicine that induces visions and can lead one to deep insights and great personal revelations. Once, during an ayahuasca ceremony, a native came to me in a vision and told me to use my abilities as an artist to show ‘my people’ (Americans) the beauty of the Amazon, and also make them aware of its ongoing destruction.”

More of his art can be found on his web page amaruspirit.org together with links and information about the other aspects of the jungle… the uglier truths of contaminations, roads buildings, injustices and deaths. His older website is at www.davidhewsonart.com
